Clothing Tips For The Groom

John Cutler recommends:

  • The grooms outfit should always complement that of his bride
  • Before deciding on the colour and style of your suit, ask your bride-to-be what colour she and her bridesmaids are wearing and the colour of their accessories
  • Don’t be afraid to stand out. A stylish groom will enhance, not detract from his bride
  • The groom should stand out from the groomsmen. They should complement your outfit, not compete
  • Choose your suit, shirt and tie together as you may have difficulty finding an exact colour match at a later date
  • Make sure the colours you choose suit you and enhance your features
  • For outdoor weddings lighter colours such as light grey, cream or even white in cool, crease resistant fabrics can look great
  • If wearing a light coloured suit don’t wear black shoes as they truncate the body
  • Pay as much attention to the fit of your shirt, as you do to your suit, as it is very likely that you will be taking your jacket off at sometime during the day
  • When considering colours for accessories such as cummerbunds and ties John believes that blue, green and grey look particularly good on a man
  • Cufflinks and tie pins can add an additional touch of class to your look
  • If your suit has been hanging in your wardrobe for some time make sure it is pressed the day before your wedding day
